Rice is the major staple food in Nigeria. There are two major types of rice in Nigeria, the polished (white rice) and the unpolished rice (brown/ofada rice), but Nigerians prefer polished rice, because it is easier to cook compare to ofada rice, they do not want to undergo stress in selecting stones from ofada rice before cooking.
Ofada rice is locally produced rice in Nigeria, with lots of nutritional values. Ofada rice is also whole grain and it contains large amount of fiber.
Nutritional Benefit of Ofada Rice
It lowers cholesterol level (bad cholesterol) in the body.
It reduces the risk of heart disease.
It helps retain normal body weight.
It averts constipation.
It decreases the risk of gallstones.
It helps promotes healthy bones.
It reduces breast cancer risk.
It protects against colon cancer.
It reduces high blood pressure.
It is a good source of whole grain.
It is also a vital dietary source of water-soluble, fat-soluble, and insoluble antioxidants.
For me, ofada rice is the best, but I’m not saying you should not eat white rice (polished rice), but also develop the habit of eating ofada rice.
