Sokoto Government to Revive Livestock Development, Breeding Centres
Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal on Thursday said the state government would revive its livestock breeding and development centres in Kebbe and Dogon Daji.
Gov. Tambuwal said this at a seminar organized by the Veterinary Council of Nigeria in Sokoto.
Tambuwal, represented by his Deputy, Alhaji Ahmed Aliyu, noted that the revival of the centres would help in producing healthy livestock and enhance training of livestock professionals.
“The state government has built an ultra-modern abattoir in Sokoto, veterinary clinics and hospitals, among others, to ensure consumption of healthy meat and also the participants should recommend solutions to the increasing menace of rustling and ways to reduce perennial farmer-herdsmen skirmishes, he added.
Tambuwal, further stressed that Nigerians should support the efforts of President Muhammadu Buhari to restore the lost glory of the nation’s agricultural sector to reduce dependence on oil revenues.
Alhaji Abubakar Muhammad, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry for Animal Health and Fisheries, urged Federal Government to continue with its efforts to ensure food security in Nigeria.
Prof. Abdullahi Zuru, the Vice Chancellor, Usman Danfodio University, Sokoto, who spoke through his deputy in charge of Administration, Prof. Mansur Sa’id, also encourage the participants to come up with formidable ways to tackle rustling.
Prof. Garba Sharubutu, the President, Veterinary Council of Nigeria, which was represented by Chief Veterinary Officer in Rivers, Dr Allswell Ewejeru, , noted that, the seminar would develop the knowledge of the practitioners.
